Get to Know Emma

My path to becoming a doula started when I watched the Netflix show "Call the Midwife." The positive stories of birth in this show were a refreshing change to what we commonly see in moves and television, and I was hooked. I had no idea that birth could be so beautiful and full of joy & strength. Over the next year, I began following some accounts on Instagram that frequently featured positive birth stories/videos and continued to research and learn more about physiological birth. After a while, I realized that pregnancy and birth was something I was deeply passionate about and I started to dream of how I could bring that passion into my career. I began researching my options and felt a strong calling towards becoming a doula. I completed my DONA approved doula training program in April 2023 and am constantly doing further reading & research to improve my knowledge and skills.

After living on the Central Coast of California for 3 years, my husband, Cooper,  and I made the move to North Idaho in early 2022 in search of a faith-filled community and slower pace of life in which we could start our family. We are so blessed to have been able to move here, and we know God had his hand in every moment along the way.

In my spare time, I can often be found exploring the mountains while foraging or hunting, tending to our 1/4 acre farmstead (we have 6 chickens, 4 rabbits, & a large garden), and cooking from scratch. When not helping me with our farmstead, Cooper owns his own architectural design company, Hitchcock Design Build.

History behind
the name:
GraceFull Beginnings

For me, this name has several levels of meaning. My middle name is Grace, which my mother chose in honor of God's grace. I desire for the mothers that I work with to have births full of grace - both from God & their own inner peace/strength. I also believe that every baby should have a graceful beginning to life, and I strive to help their mothers achieve the birth of their dreams.

My Training

I completed an intensive DONA-approved doula training workshop in April 2023. I am actively working to complete my certification and am hoping to have that completed by the end of 2023. The workshop fully equipped me to begin my work as a doula and I am so excited to be pursuing my passion.
